If you are between 8 and 108 years old and like to read middle grade books, then you are especially welcome here!

Thanks, Alot!

A blogger named Allie has recently posted about her pet peeves concerning spelling and grammar. One thing that really puts a bee in her bonnet is when people spell “a lot” as one word: “alot.”

She’s thought a lot about “alot,” and drew a picture of the image that came into her mind.

Allie's imagined Alot. Found at http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html

She’s incorporated her feelings for Alot in another drawing.

Does Allie care for ALL Alots, or just this one? Found at http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html

What kinds of Alots are in Allie’s imagination? All kinds! Like this:

This Alot is hot! Found at http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html

When it comes to Alots, Allie reaches out with love and understanding.

Allie listens, Alot. Found at http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html

But there’s one thing Allie would like to get straight. When Alots (or anyone else) are spelling “a lot,” they had better make it TWO words, not ONE.

This is silly

Callum, the boy in my MG (middle grade) novel, was raised by wolves. Here is a character who was raised by wolves AND kangaroos, in a video I made with friends in the animation biz. Presenting Silly Goose!

Grasstastic!

The post about the wild Russian knitwear got me thinking I had seen some living grass fashion somewhere, so I looked it up. As long as you water these clothes, you’re good!

Grass hat? Check. Grass suit and tie? Check. Grass car? Check. Grass underwear? Um ... he's not telling! Image found at imageisunrelated.com

You can’t wear a grass suit and tie all the time. Sometimes you want to play it a little more casual. That’s when you reach for your grass flip flops.

Comfy! Image found at monster-munch.com

And where are you when you’re at home? In your grass house, of course!

Homey! Image found at travelblog.org

Or maybe you’d rather live in a hobbit hole. You probably would, you grass fanatic!

Winter fashion

We all know that in cold winter weather it is better to be bundled up than not.

But … is there such a thing as going too far? If so, I’d say these Russian knit lovers are doing a good job of it!

(I found these pics on a Russian website that, sadly, contains some racy ads, so I can’t post it here.)

Animals are acting up lately. Mrs. and Mr. Brandts had set up their camera to take a photo of the two of them vacationing at Lake Minnewanka in Canada’s spectacular Banff National Park when this cheeky squirrel popped up in the foreground and stole the show.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. We were laughing about this little guy for days!” said Mrs. Brandts.
